APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, April 9, 2021

Who should apply to this internship?
This internship is designed for rising seniors, 2021 college graduates, or early graduate students with an interest in analytics and with a strong technical/programming background. While a degree in analytics, data science, computer science, actuarial science, risk management, or a related field is looked upon favorably, any student is welcome to apply, and applicants will be judged on the totality of their application. An interest in the healthcare industry is strongly preferred, and applicants are expected to articulate why they are interested in healthcare, but no healthcare experience is required to be a competitive candidate.

How many interns will be selected?
One student will be given the internship position.

When/where will the program take place?
The internship will last 8-12 weeks between May and August, depending on the selected intern’s availability and/or academic requirements. The internship will be fully remote, although there may be an optional team social event during the summer in the Philadelphia area. The team will operate on Eastern time.

What can the intern expect from this experience?
DVACO is a healthcare organization that uses analytics to advance its population health strategy. The intern can expect a hands-on, project-based, versatile experience tailored to the intern’s interests and skillsets. The intern will be expected to produce deliverables based on the intersection of these interests and skillsets with DVACO’s organizational needs.

The intern will be treated as a fully functional member of DVACO’s Analytics team. Accordingly, this person will rotate amongst members of the team, each of whom will provide mentorship in their area of expertise. Optimally, the intern will bring new ideas and technical capabilities to add value to the DVACO team but will also gain extensive subject matter expertise on the business of healthcare, with particular focus on how provider systems manage their patients when they are incentivized by insurers to deliver higher quality, lower cost care.

What type of applicant is DVACO seeking?
Please review the full job description for the specific skills and education that make an applicant competitive.

What is the application process?
The application process happens in phases. Interested applicants will first submit a written application consisting of:

  1. a current resume
  2. a 500-word personal statement and
  3. unofficial or official academic transcripts, including the most recently completed academic semester. The written application materials should be submitted directly via email to Emma Hannan at HannanE@dvaco.org on or sooner than Friday, April 9, 2021.

Select applicants will be invited to schedule a 15-minute phone interview on either April 14 or April 15. The phone interview will be with DVACO’s Administrative Fellow and representatives from DVACO’s Analytics department.

Finalists for the internship position will be invited for a 20-minute video interview over Zoom with the DVACO Analytics department. These interviews will take place during the week of April 19, 2021.

  • Your background and its contribution to your interest in healthcare and/or data analytics
